I am Jeannette Appold, and I provide telephone and Internet-based adoption coaching services to adoptive parents throughout the United States. My adoption coaching services offer a unique combination of emotional support, family dynamics analysis and strategic planning. My ability to offer this wide range of services comes from my own personal and professional history.

My Personal Experiences With Adoptions and Foster Care

Adoption is common in my family. As either a mother or an aunt, I have been involved in four separate adoptions, including both domestic and international adoptions.

My husband and I adopted our two children via private domestic adoptions. We adopted our son, now 6, from Oklahoma. We adopted our daughter, now 2, from Utah. We learned a lot about the ways in which different states' private adoption laws can strongly affect an adoption experience.

My brother-in-law and his wife adopted their two children from Russian orphanages. I was deeply involved in their international adoption experiences, and I am now a doting aunt to my adopted nieces and nephews. From my brother-in-law's expanded family, we have all learned a great deal about interracial adoptions — the potential pitfalls for the entire extended family and how best to address cultural differences.

My husband and I are planning to adopt a third child, probably via the foster care system. We have been foster parents for more than 10 years — focusing on providing respite care. Respite care helps us understand first-hand some of the challenges that foster children face, which in turn aids my understanding of how adoptive children make the transitions to their new homes.

An Analytical Mind to Help Structure Adoption Plans

My adoption coaching expertise comes not just from my personal experiences. I am also a trained and practicing attorney, with the type of analytical mind necessary in that profession. It is important to note that I am not an adoption attorney. When the time is right during your own adoption process, I will recommend that you hire an attorney who specializes in adoption to handle the legal aspects of your adoption process.

My background as a lawyer does give me special insights into the domestic and international adoption process, which helps me act as a more effective adoption coach for my clients.

Analytical training helps me clearly understand various state and foreign adoption laws, which can be confusing to adoptive parents. As a trained advocate who has personal experience with adoptions, I am able to explain the various laws and bureaucratic procedures clearly to my clients using non-legal language.

I have found that a clear understanding of the legal and bureaucratic aspects of the adoption process can alleviate much of the worry and fear that plagues adoptive parents, especially parents who are just starting down their path toward adoption.
